Thank You 2013, You Were All Kinds of Excellent
So. This is Christmas… Another year over… And with that in mind, I’m pleased to present my annual wedding photography round-up, a meandering wander down memory lane for myself and for all the wonderful couples I’ve worked with over the last 12 months.
This post originally started with me looking through 36,000 images. Yes, 36,000. I whittled it down to around 7000, and then to 500. And then I pretty much halved it again. It’s probably still too many, but I hope it shows you how I see the world and what I love doing. I hope it makes you smile.
What follows is a very unusual wedding day. A single day seen through the eyes of 40 different couples. 40 days compressed into 1. From start, to finish. From misty mornings and make-up through to late night revelry and laughter. I have had the pleasure of working with all these wonderful couples and their equally lovely families over the last 12 months. So first, a thank you for all the kind words, all the lovely comments about how you barely noticed me and all the warm goodbyes at the end of the night. It’s been such a pleasure to witness so many people coming together, saying their vows, making their promises and committing themselves to one another. The laughter and fun and speeches and dancing are all important, of course, but without fail I’m struck by the emotion and weight held within each quietly spoken sentence during the part of the day that draws everyone together in the first place, the reason we are all there.
Being a wedding photographer is not simply a great opportunity to take pictures, which is what I love doing. It’s a chance to continually witness the best in people. The most caring, gentlest, loving side of each of us. So a big heartfelt thank you from me, to everyone who I’ve met in 2013. You’ve been brilliant.
