indian wedding photography at bermondsey square hotel: mandi + mike

Hmm, where to begin? Mandi and Mike got in touch with me a few months back. We’d met before, at Karla and Pat’s wedding at Stockbridge Farm Barn back in July. Mandi sent me an email out of the blue saying that they’d loved my photographs, but loved the way I worked even more. That sort of thing is music to a documentary photographer’s ears. So it all went from there really. Pretty soon I was up in London photographing Mandi’s mehndi (done by the superb Preeti), at the start of a 3 day shoot that was utterly magical. Not only was it great to see some friendly faces from mike and pat’s side of the family, but lovely too to meet Mandi’s friends and relatives. I owe a big thank you to Mandi’s lovely friend who guided me through the various ceremonies that took place throughout the maiyan and the wedding day itself. Mandi and Mike had a traditional ceremony at the Gurdwara in Shepherd’s Bush and then had a civil ceremony at the Bermondsey Square Hotel. We then moved to Delfina, a great venue nearby in Bermondsey, for their reception.

Without wanting to sound too soppy, I love photographing people in love. It makes me happy. And Mandi and Mike made me very happy indeed…

PS thank you for the cake, sweets and samosas!

And that’s where we leave things for today! I’ve had to break this blog post into two parts as there was just too much to show. So this is all the action up until the ceremony begins in the Gurdwara. Tune in tomorrow to see part 2. It’s worth it, I promise.

Sam, you worked so hard…from early morning to the end of the night on all three days, you were always ready. I am really lucky that this year, thanks to you, I have been given the best photos of my little and my big brother with their beautiful partners that I could wish for. Brilliant work, brilliant results, thank you again!

I LOVE cultural weddings, so full of life and colour. I can only imagine how challenging it would be to document it, in all it’s glory, but you have done so beautifully. Amazing work Sam.
